Consistency withstanding the test of time
Years ago, when we first visited San Diego, we found James Coffee’s outpost at the edge of Little Italy in San Diego. We loved it so much that we went back towards the end of our trip to get another cup of jolt from them. Ever since then, we couldn’t wait to visit San Diego again to pay them another visit. In the past month, we found the perfect opportunity to go back as we arrived a day early for our cruise departing from the Port of San Diego. Sure enough, James coffee’s quality remains as high as the last time we visited years ago.
Modern Industrial meets Coffee
James Coffee is located in a small warehouse where it hosts several small businesses with the coffee shop occupying the main space. Because of the warehouse location, modern industrial theme fits right in. In the warehouse, you’ll find seating with a good amount of tables where we saw quite a few people working on their laptops. Although it’s not a place where it gives off a nice and cozy feel, this is an open air location so you won’t be self-conscious speaking at a normal volume. You know when you’re in a small cozy coffee shop and everyone is on their laptop where you feel like you need to whisper? This is completely the opposite. In fact, during the down time, employees were juggling and genuinely having fun!
Since we were a bit early for happy hour at a nearby restaurant, we decided to stay a bit longer and ordered a honey cinnamon latte and condense milk latte, both iced. Because we’re arrived in the afternoon, we hit the lull and was able to get our coffee made in a matter of minutes. And yes, they are just as good as the ones we remember. James Coffee never fails to deliver!
Since we arrived in the afternoon, their pastry case did not look fully stocked. We are not surprised by that. However, the pastries do look excellent and delicious. But since we were saving stomach room for happy hour, we didn’t get a chance to try them.
The Merch and the Gear
Other than having their coffee beans for sale, this James Coffee location also offers branded merch and other coffee gear. Only if we had room in our luggage, we’d probably buy a bunch of their tumblers, mugs, t-shirts, you name it.
If you are visiting San Diego and are looking for a place to take a quick break and a great cup of coffee, we’d put James Coffee high on the list.
