Portland, Oregon – Weekend Coffee Crawl Day 1 Part 1

Portland Sign

When it comes to beautiful outdoor landscapes and activities, Portland is ranks pretty high up on our list. However, Portland is also known for having great coffee roasters and coffee shops. A few weekends ago, we decided to take a quick weekend trip to Portland for a coffee crawl.

Since we wanted to squeeze every minute of the weekend, we took a 6AM flight out of SFO on bright and early Friday morning. Going through security was a breeze, there wasn’t a lot of people at 5:40 in the morning waiting at the TSA lines; took all but 10 minutes to clear through. After a quick hour and a half, we landed in Portland.

Once we deplaned, we were in desperate need of coffee and luckily the airport has some options. So we started with Good Coffee Company at PDX located within Concourse B. We ended up ordering a latte and a vanilla latte. The best thing about this place is that the coffee is the perfect temperature – not too hot, not too cold, just the right temperature. They also have seasonal menus with unique special coffees like hojicha lattes.

We took the MAX lightrail over to Portland downtown for a quick early brunch at Fried Egg I’m In Love. This is a food truck located in Pioneer Square in the heart of Portland downtown; they open at 8AM everyday. We arrived at Pioneer Square at about 10:00AM, and there was quite a crowd waiting at the truck. Thankfully they were super efficient and it only took about 10 minutes after ordering to get our food. They serve up hot breakfast sandwiches; best of all, they have a vegan option, so everyone can get something there! We were curious and tried the vegan option – Vegan and Sara. Let us tell you, it’s so delicious that we forgot to take pictures before we devoured it all.

On to our first coffee shop at Portland – 40LBS Coffee Bar. Minutes away from Pioneer Square, it was well worth the short walk over. They also have a bar location which serves alcohol, but we opted to visit the coffee only shop. If you love that industrial look mixed with a touch of Pacific Northwest, this is the spot for you. We entered fully expecting to only get a couple cups of coffee since we just ate, but once the lovely employee there mentioned that they have a salted miso chocolate chip cookie, we had to get it. And ohh goodness, that miso with the salt flakes on top makes that cookie!
