Finding great coffee doesn’t have to be in the heart of the SF Bay Area
Tucked away in downtown Livermore, CA – Story Coffee is a small local shop where you will find a great cup of coffee. Livermore is located in the inland East Bay of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The most common reason you’d know the name of this town is because they also have the Bay Area’s outlet where you can find great deals on name brands. However, since everyone flocks to the outlets, downtown area doesn’t get as much attention as it should. Why? Because Livermore downtown actually have great food and, most important of all, great coffee! During our coffee exploration, we found this cozy shop at the edge of Livermore downtown. From the outside, you wouldn’t expect to find a coffee spot here.
Awesome fresh pastries
Although we don’t know where they acquire their pastries from, they are fresh and tasty. When we arrived at the shop, we were immediately greeted by a full of fresh pastries. In the pastry case, you will find mostly flaky pastries – different kinds of croissants, Kouign-amann, and Belgium waffles. They all looked super tasty, but we only have limited stomach space so we opted for a cinnamon twist and a Kouign-amann.
Super happy to say that they are fresh and flaky, and not stale at all. We’d have to say though, while their pastries easily beats any grocery store bought grocery, the star of this coffee shop is the coffee.
The Star of the show – Whiskey Latte
Not only Story Coffee roast their own beans, they also pull excellent espresso and even better speciality drinks. Looking over the menu, one drink in particular piqued our interest is their Whiskey Latte. So we ordered one of those and a regular Cafe Latte. After a couple minutes, we received our coffee. Our drinks came in perfect temperature and excellent texture.
We honestly didn’t know what to expect from a Whiskey Latte; however, once we tasted it, we both agreed that this unlikely pair complements each other very well. The whiskey and espresso brings out the nuances of each other and makes a perfect drink. But will you get drunk off of it? We can confidently say no since we loved it so much that we ordered another one to go when we head out. After downing that drink, we did not feel any effects of alcohol. We presume that that when Story Coffee makes the syrup for this drink, that they have brunt off the alcohol during that process.
If you are in the area or are on your way to the Premium outlets, we’d definitely recommend stopping by and try out their Whiskey Latte and other drinks!
